You Can’t Put Your Arms Around a Memory

by Nathan Andrew on August 1, 2009 · 0 comments

Post-dated but remarkably fresh. March 15, 2005

Dear Self,

I can’t remember a time I’ve ever felt this combination of confusion, frustration, and utter aimlessness simultaneously. It’s as if I were born at the age of 27 to a delivery room full of infants with swollen thumbs and soft heads starring back at me. What is a boy to do?  Swap my sharp objects for a teething ring. Or take to spanking everyone and name a street for myself.

Sincerely
na

The Following is based on actual events. In a dream.
The inane noise of AM Radio wakes me instantly.  Roll over.  Slap the alarm clock.  Smacking my knee into the bedside table.  Straighten my back.  Numbness in my toes fade on the rug.  Shuffle across the floor dragging the rug with me.  Tile is always cold [...]

Interviewer: Maverickk..(ahhem)… I mean Senator McCain, what exactly was the overriding factor tilting your eventual decision on a running-mate in Gov. Palin’s favor?
McCain: Well my friend, as you well know I do travel on the Straightish-Talk Express©. So lemme give it to you straightish. Honestly, it wasn’t up to me… it was up [...]
